Complex Gamma Ray Spectra Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
The gamma ray spectrometry laboratory of the University of Bucharest was designed for the analysis of low-level radioactivity samples. High efficiency shielded HPGe detectors are used. Efficiency calibration is achieved by complementing experimental calibration with Monte Carlo computation carried out using GESPECOR, also applied for the evaluation of coincidence summing corrections. Low detection and decision limits are challenging, and the method to respond to this situation is presented. Using a blank sample in the same experimental conditions as the actual sample turns out benefic for precise peak subtraction. Procedures for peak finding were developed, which include analysis of the peak area/FWHM ratios, hypergeometric alert, in order to establish confidence limits concerning the actual existence of a certain peak in the spectrum. The method is oriented to numeric solutions rather than developing complex fitting functions that might not be appropriate. Development of a software insuring retrospective predictability and asking for human intervention in controversial situations is in progress.

متن کاملAnalysis of the gamma ray spectra recorded in the use of Xenon-133 for cerebral blood flow studies.
A problem in the measurement of cerebral blood flow with 133Xenon is the presence of extra-cerebral counts in the total counts recorded with a collimated gamma ray detector looking at the brain. A method of studying qualitatively the contribution of this extra-cranial component in patients is described. This entails the sequential accumulation of gamma ray spectra recorded during the clearance ...
متن کاملBroadband Spectral Properties of Bright High-energy Gamma-ray Bursts Observed with Batse and Egret
We present the spectral analysis of duration-integrated broadband spectra (in ∼ 30 keV−200 MeV) of 15 bright BATSE gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). Some GRB spectra are very hard, with their spectral peak energies being above the BATSE LAD passband limit of ∼2 MeV. In such cases, their highenergy spectral parameters (peak energy and high-energy power-law indices) cannot be adequately constrained by BAT...
متن کاملRemoval of the Continuum of X-Ray Spectra Using Morphological Operators - Nuclear Science, IEEE Transactions on
In energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis, the estimation and removal of the continuum on which the X-ray spectrum is superimposed is a primary requirement. The algorithms commonly used are either complex, or in the case of, e.g., neural network algorithms, computation-intensive. They usually require strong constraints and/or hypotheses on the data or the shape of the continuum. Moreover...
متن کاملOn the Shape of Pulse Spectra in Gamma-ray Bursts
The discovery (Liang & Kargatis 1996), that the peak energy of time-resolved spectra of gamma-ray burst (GRB) pulses decays exponentially with fluence, is analytically shown to imply that the time-integrated photon number spectrum of a pulse should have a unique shape, given by an underlying E behavior. We also show that the asymptotic low energy normalization of the time-integrated spectrum is...
